Entrepreneurship can be exhilarating. It can also be lonely. That’s the realization I came to soon after I decided to start my own business coaching fellow entrepreneurs. Unlike previous roles in my career, I no longer had a built-in group of peers or colleagues to lean on for advice, feedback or support. So I created my own.

I reached out to a coach and friend I admired, and asked if he wanted to join my mastermind group. When he said yes, I asked who he admired and wanted to learn from. That person was my next phone call.

I repeated that process until 7 of the 8 people invited agreed to join. That was in June of 2020. We’ve been meeting once a month ever since. The time I’ve spent with those folks has been irreplaceable. And the lesson is worth returning to:

We can lament the things we lack. Or we can create them ourselves. Sometimes they’re just a phone call (or 8) away.

What is something missing in your life or business that you can proactively create?
